The Energy Transition is certainly underway – renewables are steadily increasing while baseload power provided by coal and gas plants continues to tick along – generally with reliability. I’m sure you are aware of the Callide C4 catastrophic failure recently – as an ex CS Energy training manager and power plant operator in a previously life, I am aware of these types of rare and extremely dangerous events, but only in other parts of the world. Thankfully no-one was injured and am interested to hear the investigation outcomes to prevent reoccurrence. Back to renewables – at the Australian Hydrogen Council Conference last week the Tasmanian Energy Minister Guy Barnett mentioned Tasmania was producing 100% renewables now and aiming for 200% by 2040 – the energy transition marches on.
